Lunik IX is a borough in Kosice, Slovakiaâs second biggest city. It is said to be one of the largest Roma ghettos in Europe. Build in the 1970âs to house 2500 inhabitants, at the time the photos were taken it was home to about 6000 Roma. Living conditions are harsh: apartment buildings are in a terrible state, electricity, water and gas are limited, health standards are poor, unemployment is almost 100%.
