The church of `Ma Jolie` in Matete Kinshasa is specialised in the healing of child witches. Ma Jolie is a priest who received a special gift: by praying she knows who is attained by witchcraft. Every Sunday, during mass, she will accuse children to be the murderers of their father, mother, uncle or aunt. Those children will visit the church during the week and undergo several prayers to eventually reject the evil.
Today child witches are a big hype in Congo. In Kinshasa most families have to support children from a family member who lives upcountry. If something goes wrong within the family that can be something like a fridge that stops working those children will often be held responsible. If bad luck continious, the child will be accused of witchcraft. Many children are chased away by the family and end up in the street. Others families will visit a church where the child will be openly accused of witchcraft and will undergo a ritual to chase away the evil.

Tijdens de week worden speciale sessies georganiseerd om de duivel te verdrijven. Vandaag worden heel veel kinderen in Kinshasa beticht van hekserij. Vaak zijn dat kinderen van aanverwante familie die een zware last betekenen voor het gastgezin. Daarom worden ze vaak van hekserij beschuldigd en vervolgens uit het gezin verdreven.
