Vandaag staat heel Israël stil bij de gebeurtenissen van 7 oktober 2023 en de aanslagen van Hamas.
Duizenden trekken vandaag naar Nova Festival memorial waar twee jaar geleden vele jongeren werden omgebracht door gewapende Hamas strijders.
De plek waar toen het festival plaats vond is nu een herdenkingsplek geworden. Over zie je foto’s van vermoorde jongeren. Hun foto’s staan op de plaats waar ze om het leven kwamen. Op de locaties waar het hoofdpodium, de dansvloer,…was staan nu herdenkingsmonumenten.
Het is er stil. Heel erg stil. Enkel het gehuil van mensen en zo nu en dan een bombardement in Gaza op de achtergrond.
Er is een memorial route waarlangs je rode bloemen kan vinden en foto’s met verhalen.
En in een aparte zone is er, voor wie er nood aan heeft, psychologishce hulp voorzien door een team van Safeheart, vertelt Efrat Atun me.

Today, all of Israel is commemorating the events of 7 October 2023 and the attacks by Hamas.
Thousands are gathering today at the Nova Festival memorial, where two years ago many young people were killed by armed Hamas fighters.
The place where the festival took place has now become a memorial site. You can see photos of the murdered young people. Their photos are displayed at the place where they lost their lives. Memorials now stand at the locations where the main stage, the dance floor, etc. used to be.
It is quiet there. Very quiet. Only the cries of people and the occasional bombing in Gaza can be heard in the background.
There is a memorial route where you can find red flowers and photographs with stories.
And in a separate area, psychological help is provided by a team from Safeheart for those who need it, Efrat Atun tells me.
